The history of anti-Asian events in the USA encompasses a range of discriminatory actions, from the Chinese Exclusion Act (1882) to Japanese internment camps during World War II to the current events of COVID-19, reflecting deep-seated prejudices and systemic mistreatment rooted in xenophobia and racism. These events have shaped the Asian American experience, underscoring the ongoing struggle against marginalization and fostering a need for societal awareness and solidarity against bigotry.

We must discuss these pasts so that we can prevent future events, concerning AAPI hate, from reoccurring.

AAPI Hate During COVID-19

At the height of the pandemic, there was a disturbing surge in hate crimes and discrimination against the Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) community. Targeted attacks and incidents of verbal and physical abuse intensified, fueled by xenophobia and misplaced blame for the virus, exposing the alarming rise of AAPI hate crimes during this period.
